Government plans boost for employee ownership model
THE GOVERNMENT yesterday unveiled a package of measures aimed at promoting the employee-ownership model, with the aim of allowing more workers to have a stake in their business.
This will see the development of a simple “off the shelf” template for setting up an employee-owned company, as well as work to raise awareness of the model.
However the well-established Employee Ownership Organisation yesterday published an open letter to business minister Jo Swinson, raising concerns about parallel plans to let workers trade employment rights for shares.
“Our members are very aware that there is no need to dilute the rights of workers in order to grow employee ownership,” it says.
