Giroud in race to face Marseille as Arsenal’s injury list grows
ARSENAL are hoping that Olivier Giroud will recover from a knee problem in time for Wednesday night’s Champions League trip to Marseille, after the French centre forward was injured in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Sunderland.
The victory put Arsene Wenger’s side top of the Premier League – at least until Liverpool play Swansea tonight – yet left the Gunners’ boss worried over a growing injury list.
“That’s my worry – we are very thin at the moment. It’s a knee problem [with Giroud]. He is the player at the moment that would be very difficult for us [to replace],” Wenger admitted.
Yet Giroud boosted hopes that he will make the start of the latest European campaign, tweeting: “My knee is ok don’t worry!”
The Gunners are missing numerous first team players, however, with Lukas Podolski out until at least the start of October, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Tomas Rosicky, Abou Diaby, Yaya Sanogo, Santi Cazorla and Mikel Arteta all remain on the sidelines.
