Rickie Fowler rallies as Henrik Stenson falters at Deutsche Bank Open
America’s Rickie Fowler instigated a comeback in the latter stages of the final round to win the Deutsche Bank Open by a single stroke in Boston last night.
Fowler trailed Sweden’s overnight leader Henrik Stenson by two shots with five holes to play but sank a tricky birdie putt on the 14th, and was flawless in the remainder of his round to card a three-under 68 and finish 15 under for the tournament.
Stenson never recovered from a double bogey on the 16th as he recorded his second successive runner-up finish in the FedEx Cup play-offs. Victory saw Fowler move to No5 in the world.
American Charley Hoffman finished four shots behind Fowler in third place, while Jim Furyk, Patrick Reed and Hunter Mahan were all in a five-way tie for fourth.
