Fourteen severe flood warnings in place as storm misery continues
THE MET Office is warning of more bad weather today as a fresh barrage of high wind and heavy rain is expected to strike the UK.
David Cameron yesterday called on local councils to act more quickly to get sandbags out to residents in need, as the Environment Agency warned that water levels in flooded areas will continue to rise.
Fourteen severe flood warnings remain in place across London and the south east.
Elsewhere, politicians and insurance industry leaders joined forces to lobby the government to include small businesses in a new scheme to provide affordable flood insurance.
Flood RE will only apply to residential properties, which means village pubs and other small enterprises will still face high policy prices. Labour’s shadow business secretary Chuka Umunna accused the government of turning “a blind eye” to small firms in need.
