Flower handed new England leadership role
FORMER England team director Andy Flower has been tasked with revolutionising coaching at all levels of the game after being handed a new role by the England and Wales Cricket Board yesterday.
Flower, who stepped down from his previous role following the winter Ashes whitewash and one-day international series’ drubbing, was named technical director of elite coaching with a view to bridging the gap between those at international and county level.
The 45-year-old has also been charged with creating a leadership programme for young England players and will be based at the national cricket performance centre at Loughborough University.
He said: “I see this as a great opportunity for me as I start a new phase of my career. This role offers me a chance to make a real contribution to the ability and character of England players and coaches in the years to come.”
England play West Indies in the deciding one-day international of their three match series tomorrow under the guidance of former spin bowler Ashley Giles.
Flower’s successor as team director is yet to be appointed.
