Five of the best | Stuck in London? Here are five apps to get you moving again
Cycle Hire
This app was made to accompany the Barclays Cycle Hire scheme – commonly known as Boris Bikes. It uses an in-app journey planner to help you devise cycle friendly routes, search for docking stations by postcode or a London venue, and manage your cycle hire account.
iOS; 69p
Citymapper
Available for London, Paris, New York, and Berlin, Citymapper provides A to B journey planning using all forms of public transport, estimated taxi fares, walking and cycling routes. It even tells you how many calories you’re burning while you’re doing it.
iOS/Android; free
Hailo
Hailo works with 23,000 London black cab drivers by alerting them to the location of app users in need of a taxi, for a commission on the fare. Passengers can pay through the app by credit or debit card, or by cash and it sends you a receipt by email afterwards.
iOS/Android; free
Kabbee
This app makes booking a minicab an informed choice, rather than one dictated by whichever office is nearby. Compare prices with local firms and use the “via” option to pick up a friend or some cash along the way. Pay via cash, card, or a pre-paid account.
iOS/Android; free
Addison Lee
Addison Lee has the largest fleet of cars in London. This app lets you book a cab for a fixed price, it gives you details so you can identify your driver when he arrives and it tracks the vehicle through London. It gives you the option to pay by cash, card or account.
