FISHY FAVOURITES IN THE CITY
CATCH AT ANDAZ
The Andaz hotel’s grand 1901 restaurant tends to get the attention, but Catch is worth a visit for its fresh, expertly-cooked seafood. Menu highlights include confit of Arctic salmon with duck egg and spinach gnocchi, and pan roasted brill cutlet with octopus, fennel and sepia ink risotto. 40 Liverpool St, EC2M 7QN. www.andazdining.com
CHAMBERLAIN’S
Restaurants, like houses, are all about location, and Chamberlain’s is a humdinger, right in the middle of Leadenhall market. The seafood cuisine lives up to the scenery, and the cod and chips with mushy peas is a must. There’s a rather cosy basement bar with its own menu too, and the place is excellent for functions. 23-25 Leadenhall Market, EC3V 1LR. www.chamberlains.org
SWEETINGS
A true piece of Square Mile history, Sweeting’s hasn’t changed much since it opened in 1889. It’s a lunch place only – it’s only open from 11.30am to 3pm – and specialises in simple, old-fashioned seafood dishes. You’ll find City grandees crammed in munching down potted shrimps, fried haddock and sponge pudding. 39 Queen Victoria St, EC4N 4SA. Tel: 020 7248 3062
