Federer prioritises winning back his Wimbledon title
BEATEN French Open finalist Roger Federer is relishing the start of the grass court season and is focussed on equalling Pete Sampras’ record of seven Wimbledon titles.
The Swiss ace looked back to somewhere near his best at Roland Garros –the highlight being his semi-final victory over Novak Djokovic – where he made it to his first grand slam final since January 2010.
While clay has always been Federer’s least favourite surface, his attacking game is perfectly suited to grass and he is intent on regaining the trophy he last won in 2009.
Federer (left), who last night pulled out of the pre-Wimbledon event at Halle, said: “The huge priority right now is to win Wimbledon. That’s always the No1 goal in the season.
“This is where it all started for me back in 2003, or even with [the fourth-round win over] Sampras in 2001. That’s why I always really enjoy coming back.”
