Fabio hints at Rooney selection
ENGLAND manager Fabio Capello has indicated Wayne Rooney is likely to be included in his plans for Euro 2012 despite the suspension that will rule his star striker out of the entire group stage.
The Manchester United forward was handed a three-match ban by Uefa for the red card he picked up in Montenegro earlier this month after a disciplinary panel deemed his swipe at Miodrag Dzudovic as “assault”.
Capello said the right mix of youth and experience will be essential for the Three Lions to succeed, while also suggesting that he may include Rooney in his 23-man squad despite the length of the striker’s ban.
He said: “The young players are really good and ready to play with the seniors, and the experience of the seniors is really important.
“During the games we need some leaders, people that know something.
“Jack Wilshere is incredible because he is so young. There are not many young players in the world who are better than the English ones.
“But we also need the experience of John Terry, Rio Ferdinand and Scott Parker.
“You need this kind of player, plus Rooney, I hope.”
