FA Cup: Milner brace spares City blushes as Pellegrini frets over cup form
MANCHESTER CITY 2 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 1
MANCHESTER City boss Manuel Pellegrini admits struggling to motivate his stars for cup clashes after they needed a James Milner brace to come from behind at home to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday.
Austrian striker Atdhe Nuhiu slotted the visitors into a shock lead and they held firm until midfielder Milner drove a 66th-minute equaliser and then tapped in an injury-time winner to send the Premier League champions into tonight’s FA Cup fourth round draw.
“We didn’t play well at all today and I think the motivation between the two sides was quite different. We played very bad,” said Pellegrini.
“We didn’t play the way we normally do and we didn’t keep the ball or have enough possession. It was the same today as in cup ties over the last year against Watford, Wigan and Newcastle where we failed to get going quick enough.”
