Extreme weather costs UK business
NEARLY two thirds of British businesses suffered disruption to their supply chain because of last winter’s bad weather, a high-level panel led by insurance firm Zurich has found.
The panel, which included officials from the government’s department for Business Innovation and Skills and the Association of British Insurers, was brought together to create a green paper on how businesses can better prepare for extreme weather events, such as floods and snow, which affected 64 per cent of UK firms last year..
The meeting, held in Westminster last week, came after a survey released by the Business Continuity Institute and Zurich said 51 per cent of 550 firms across 60 countries named harsh weather as the main cause disruption to their business in 2011.
