Eurobond king Rudloff quits after 50 years in investment banking
INVESTMENT banking titan Hans-Joerg Rudloff announced his plan to retire yesterday after almost 50 years in the business.
Rudloff made his name developing the Eurobond markets, a key stage in the emergence of modern, global finance, and in the history of the City of London.
The 73-year-old has chaired Barclays’ investment banking arm since 1998, overseeing its rise from its foundation into a major force.
Rudloff also survived the damage to the unit from the Libor scandal.
Entering the sector in the mid-60s he rose to become chief executive and chairman of Credit Suisse First Boston, the world’s leading investment bank in the 80s.
“We wish Hans-Joerg the very best for the future,” Barclays execs Eric Bommensath and Tom King said in an internal memo, seen by City A.M. “In the strongest tradition of stewardship, there can be no doubt that he leaves Barclays forever better for his having been here.”
