England match kicks off Polo in the Park
NOW IN its sixth year, Chestertons Polo in the Park is fast becoming a signature sporting occasion, heralding as it does the opening of London’s social summer calendar.
And this year, England will face an all-South American team sponsored by Air Europa for the International Polo Match, due to take place on the opening day of this year’s Chestertons Polo in the Park on 5 June.
With its simplified rules and smaller playing field the event – which runs until 7 June – has taken polo to a brand new audience. It will be the first time an international match has been played at Hurlingham Park, Fulham, since 1939.
The international game will be played in a similar format to the rest of the tournament, whereby each team is made up of three players (rather than the usual four) and they change ends only once at half-time.
City A.M. is sponsoring the event for the fifth year running, and for the second year in a row, will be behind Team Abu Dhabi.
Horses for courses, we say.
