Edmund quits Roland Garros
BRITAIN’S Kyle Edmund has been forced to withdraw from the French Open after having a scan on a stomach injury yesterday.
World No121 Edmund had navigated three qualifying rounds at Roland Garros before dispatching France’s Stephane Robert on Monday to record his maiden win in the main draw of a Grand Slam.
The 20-year-old was scheduled to face Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the second round today. He tweeted: “To avoid making the injury worse I have withdrawn to recover and prepare for the grass.”
Fellow Briton Andy Murray will play Kyrgios in the third round providing he navigates today’s second-round clash against Joao Sousa of Portugal.
