Dyson sweeps up Singapore luxury apartment for record sum
British billionaire James Dyson has snapped up what is thought to be the most expensive flat in Singapore.
The entrepreneur has paid roughly £43.5m for a “super penthouse” spanning three stories at the very top of the city’s tallest skyscraper.
Equipped with a private garden, 600-bottle wine cellar and a swimming pool, the self-styled “bungalow in the sky” includes five bedrooms and its own lift.
Located in the tallest building in Singapore, called the Tanjong Pagar Centre, Dyson’s new trophy home is part of the Wallich Residence, a collection of 181 luxury private flats.
The deal comes as Dyson, who has made his fortune in selling vacuum cleaners and hairdryers, preapres to move his company’s head office to Singapore amid plans to build new electric cars.
“Given the decision to locate the headquarters in Singapore and the growing focus of the company’s business in the region, of course James Dyson has bought a property there,” a Dyson spokesperson said in a statement.
Dyson, a prominent Brexit supporter, has defended his company’s move to Singapore following criticisms that the shift contradicted the businessman’s previous comments that he was “enormously optimistic” about the UK’s trading future post-Brexit.
The firm has said the HQ move is “nothing to do with Brexit”, but instead was through efforts of “future-proofing”.
