Down to earth style
WHAT a coincidence. Two weeks after the Trade Union Congress declared high heels a menace to health in the workplace, flat shoes have surged to the fore as the must-have fashion accessory for fall. Comfort and style in one – who knew?
“Every season, brogues for women come back with more vengeance,” says a spokeswoman for shoe chain Office. “It’s all about updated traditional styles in contrasting tweed panelling, patent leather and metallic finishes. These once-masculine shoes are now stylish, feminine and extremely versatile.” The vibe of this season’s shoes is Katherine Hepburn and Coco Chanel before Karl Lagerfeld, hinting at the empowered woman with a little bit of something extra. If the brogue doesn’t appeal, the classic pump still has a lot to offer – it can be girly and interesting, especially with beads, jewels and buckles on the toe. Here’s to a season of comfort in style.
