Domino’s takes away bumper sales growth in 2013
Domino's Pizza has seen like-for-like sales jump by an impressive 10.9 per cent in its 670 UK mature stores in the 13 weeks to 29 December. The takeaway food company said the rise in sales was partly driven by increased digital marketing activity, as well as a more favourable timing of the Christmas break compared to last year.
The growth in like-for-like sales is a marked improvement compared to the same period in 2012, which saw sales growth of 4.5 per cent in 613 mature stores.
Online sales continued to expand rapidly accounting for 65.5 per cent of UK delivered sales. Total online sales for the period rose by 15.7 per cent to £94.4m and online sales for the year amounted to £325.9m.
Chief executive, Lance Batchelor commented:
I am pleased to report an outstanding last quarter of like-for-like sales growth in our core UK market and robust like-for-like sales growth in the Republic of Ireland stores, where positive like-for-like sales were recorded in every quarter this year after four years of decline.
2013 saw significant changes at one the UK's favourite pizza delivery companies. CEO, Lance Batchelor resigned last year and will be leaving for a new job at private equity-backed insurer Saga from 30 April 2014.
Batchelor took on the position at Domino's in December 2011 after serving in leading roles at Tesco, Vodaphone and Amazon.
