Domino’s Pizza serves up a feast as online ordering drives sales
Pizza seller Domino’s impressed its investors yesterday with a strong set of results fuelled by booming numbers of UK consumers ordering its wares online and from smartphones over the past six months.
Domino’s, which operates the British, Irish, Swiss and German franchises of the global delivery brand, saw its profit jump 10.1 per cent to £24.5m during the 26 weeks to 29 June.
“E-commerce continues to fuel much of our UK growth as we seek to find new ways to make it as easy as possible for customers to order our pizzas,” said chief executive David Wild. “Sales through these channels now represent 69.7 per cent of delivered sales and mobile now makes up 38.3 per cent of this, up from 27.5 per cent in the first half of 2013. We anticipate that mobile will become our most popular ordering channel in 2015.”
Domino’s shares rose 0.9 per cent to 547.5p on the news.
