Domino’s Pizza sales jump after Britons ordered in for royal birth
DOMINO’S Pizza said it enjoyed a leap in sales on the day of the royal birth, as Britons stayed glued to their television sets to get their first glimpse of baby Cambridge.
“Prince George drove sales up 20 per cent on the previous Monday – it had greater impact on our sales than any weather could have,” chief executive Lance Batchelor said.
The pizza delivery firm, which makes around 98 per cent of its revenue in the UK and Ireland, said overall sales rose 13.8 per cent to £326.5m in the 26 weeks to 30 June.
However pre-tax profits slumped to £11.6m from £21.5m the same time last year after writedowns at its two-year old German business.
The group said it now expects to breakeven there in 2016 or 2017, as opposed to an earlier target of 2015.
Like-for-like sales rose 6.4 per cent in the UK and 6.5 per cent in Ireland.
