Doctors pressure Cameron over cig packets
A GROUP of 600 doctors and nurses have published an open letter to Prime Minister David Cameron, urging him not to stall plans for plain packaging of cigarettes.
Despite cross-party support for plain packets and a promise to publish details in April, ministers have since gone quiet on the issue, sparking concern that it has been kicked into the long grass.
“There is a relatively short time left for the government to produce the draft regulations if they are to be voted on before the general election,” the letter in the British Medical Journal reads. “We therefore ask you to confirm that they will be published in the next few weeks. The PM’s spokesman said a consultation paper would be set out “in the coming period”.
