This dairy is now a multi-million pound Mayfair mansion worth £25m
A former dairy farm in the heart of one central London's most prestigious locations has been transformed from a simple cowshed into a multi-million pound home worthy of countesses, rather than cows.
The more than 8,000 sq ft site on Farm Street in Mayfair, which is close to Grosvenor Square and The Dorchester and just a stone's throw from Bond Street, is the UK's most expensive conversion of a farm into a residential property.
The £25m property now comes with all mod cons and includes luxuries such as a roof garden, swimming pool, gym, lift and media room.
The developers have definitely milked it – here's what its dairy parlours looked like…
… and how it looks now.
The dairy dates back to Tudor times, when Mayfair was a village close to the capital's centre around Whitehall and the City. Farm Street hosted not only the dairy, where cows were brought to be milked, but a tavern and an abattoir.
On the site of the tavern, there's still a pub: the Punchbowl, which was once owned by film director Guy Ritchie.
By the late 1800s the site became a depot for storing milk brought into London by train rather than the cows.
"As the location of Mayfair’s dairy, the interesting and unusual history allowed for the construction of a house on a commercial depot site, without the usual restrictions of historic listing controls," said Peter Wetherell, the boss of Wetherell, the property firm marketing the house.
The building now has four bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, a master "suite" spread across a single floor (complete with jacuzzi tub), and a "kitchen breakfast room" with outside patio in addition to the roof terrace.
