Consumers feeling most upbeat since 2010 as confidence grows

CONSUMER and business confidence is continuing to climb as the year gets underway, according to two surveys released this morning.
Sentiment among consumers is now at the highest level since November 2010, when Lloyds first carried out its spending power report. Attitudes towards discretionary spend income are also at an all-time high, with more people thinking they will be better off in six months than those that think they will be worse off.
Service sector companies are also reporting an upsurge in optimism according to the CBI, which saw the fastest increase in confidence since its polling began 16 years ago.
“Strong growth is being reported across the whole sector. Headcount is predicted to rise next quarter and expectations for an expansion of business over the year ahead are the strongest for a decade,” said the CBI’s Anna Leach.
