Club Nintendo ditched for new membership scheme

Nintendo is bringing its popular Club Nintendo reward membership scheme to an end after more than six years.
 
The Japanese video gaming giant will begin to phase out its customer loyalty programme in a staggered process to prepare for a new reward scheme next year.
 
Club Nintendo is free to join, offering users the chance to earn credits – known as “stars” – by submitting codes found on new Nintendo products and systems which are traded for special edition items such as t-shirts, posters and greeting cards.
 
From April 1, registration cards will no longer be included with new products in the UK, meaning they can no longer be registered with Club Nintendo. By 30 September, all of its features will have been dissolved. Users are encouraged to use all their “stars” by this time.
 
Nintendo says its new programme will offer those who sign up to a free download of Flipnote Studio 3D. 
 
Scott Moffitt, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Nintendo America, commented:
 
We thank all Club Nintendo members for their dedication to Nintendo games and their ongoing love for our systems and characters.
 
We want to make this time of transition as easy as possible for our loyal Club Nintendo members, so we are going to add dozens of new rewards and downloadable games to help members clear out their coin balances.
 
Nintendo is in good financial health, with second quarter results revealing profit beyond expectations of Y5.7bn (£32.7m) last October.
