CITY VIEWS: WHAT DO YOU THINK THE OUTLOOK IS FOR THE CITY JOBS MARKET?
STEVE WOODS | TELEREAL TRILLIUM
“It depends on what sector you’re in. I’m in IT but being made redundant next week, and for me personally there’s not much out there at the moment. It’s definitely a hirer’s market, and a crowded one at that.”
BENNY ZACHARIAH | WEST LB
“There are definitely head hunters in the market. I don’t know whether they’re for jobs in London or elsewhere – perhaps they are trying to take advantage of the tax situation. A lot of graduate schemes have been cut, but higher-level positions are being filled to replace those who have left.”
SIOBHAN HEWITT-DEVINE | PRUPIM
“A lot of people are still a bit nervous about moving, especially if they have accrued benefits
and bonuses with their current company. No-one wants to move now, in case the market changes again and it’s last in, first out.”
MARLIES STEHR | JP MORGAN
“A lot of people are sticking with the job they already have. Companies are hiring again, but if you’re in employment you don’t want to risk moving. It has improved for those who don’t have jobs. The new tax rate might drive people out of the UK, as companies might cut jobs or move offices.”
