CITY VIEWS: ARE YOU WORRIED THAT HOUSE PRICES COULD SOAR OUT OF CONTROL AGAIN?
TONY DOONA CARILLION
“I don’t believe they will get out of control, in fact I think they’re more likely to go down again. There’s a shortage of cash in general and it’ll be no better next year. There’s no construction going on, simply because no one has any money. I can’t see the government doing anything about that until after the election.”
ANTHONY O’CONNELL AVIVA
“It’s unlikely in the short term. People will be more reserved in making the speculative leap into a new house. Job uncertainty and other market conditions make it difficult for first-time buyers. If prices stay at a reasonable level, it should mean there are more opportunities but people are reluctant to commit to a mortgage.”

“I can’t imagine that prices will rise that far, especially with banks being much more wary about lending. There are still ridiculous mortgages out there, which ought to keep prices in check. Property has been inflated relative to average salaries, so it would be no bad thing if they stayed at their current level.”
