Barclays Wealth
Wellian Wiranto has been appointed as Asia economist at Barclays Wealth’s Singapore office. As a member of the Barclays Wealth global investment strategy group, Wiranto will also focus on interpreting market economics for private banking clients in the region.
Prior to joining Barclays Wealth, Wiranto worked at HSBC Bank in Singapore as its Asian economist of global research. Prior to joining HSBC, he was a senior economist at the economic policy department with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Smith & Nephew
The global medical technology business has appointed Ajay Piramal as a non-executive director, effective from 1 January. Piramal is the chairman of Piramal Group, the Mumbai-based healthcare, financial services and real estate conglomerate.
Investment Funds Direct
Rob Beverley has been appointed as institutional sales director at Investment Funds Direct Limited (IDFL). Beverley joined IDFL in August 2008 as strategic accounts manager, where he focused on developing new business relationships with major distributors and, more recently, as head of strategic relationships.
K2 Global Consulting
The risk consultancy has appointed Paul de Bendern as a managing director, based in London. De Bendern previously spent 16 years at Reuters news agency, where he held senior positions in Latin America, North Africa, Turkey, Scandinavia and, most recently, India, where he led 100 staff.
The Prostate Cancer Charity
Four City executives have joined the board of the Prostate Cancer Charity: Mark Britnell, global chairman for health at KPMG; Sharon Fraser, managing partner for regional markets and member of the UK executive at Deloitte; Vanessa Vallely, head of business management, trade operations at Aviva Investors; and Bob Humphreys, director of finance and information at Oxfam GB.
North Investment Partners
The independent discretionary management firm has appointed three non-executive directors to the board, representing three groups of investors that now own 30 per cent of the company’s shares. The new directors are Alex Catto, a non-executive director of Neptune Asset Management; Andrew Martin-Smith, chairman of Parmenion Capital Management; and Tim Weller, chief executive of Incisive Media.

The specialist wealth manager has appointed William Sparks as an investment manager in its Dublin office. Sparks joins from Dolmen Stockbrokers and previously worked for Davy Stockbrokers, where he began his career.
First State Investments
Tal Lomnitzer has been appointed as a portfolio manager in the global resources team at First State’s London office. He joins from Merchant Capital’s global resources fund, which he founded and managed. Prior to that, Lomnitzer was a partner and fund manager at NewSmith Capital and ORN Capital, where he managed the global long/short resources and energy funds. He was also a fund manager and buy-side equity analyst at Deutsche Asset Management, where he worked in the global energy team.
Datong
The intelligence gathering solutions provider has appointed Mark Cook to the board as chief executive, effective from 9 January. Cook was formerly founder, group managing director and non-executive director of Persides, a technology and products business with its main markets in defence, aerospace, nuclear and security.
Savills
Russell Banham has been appointed as a director in the international investment team at Savills, based in the firm’s Grosvenor Hill office. Banham previously worked at Donaldsons, DTZ and, most recently, Arbelos, where he worked as a managing director of shopping centre development and asset management. He will specialise in development and asset management on major schemes, working with director Kevin Mahoney on new and existing projects for UK and European clients.
