Covington
Lord Francis Maude, the former UK minister for trade and investment in Prime Minister David Cameron’s government, has joined Covington as a senior adviser in the firm’s public policy and government affairs practice.With a political career spanning almost 40 years, Lord Maude has held a number of high profile government positions, including financial secretary to the Treasury, shadow chancellor of the exchequer, shadow foreign secretary, chairman of the Conservative party, and the minister for the Cabinet Office. Lord Maude was elevated to the House of Lords in May 2015.
Mercer
Mercer has appointed Paul Howard regional leader of Mercer Jelf Financial Planning. Paul will be responsible for developing the profile and growth of the financial planning business across the north. A chartered financial planner and fellow of the Chartered Institute of Insurance, Paul joins Mercer with experience in both restricted and independent advice models. After joining as a trainee at the Royal Bank of Scotland personal banking in 1990 he held numerous mortgage and customer adviser roles before moving to the regulated sales arm of the company. He went on to continue as an independent financial adviser at Barclays. From 2004 to 2016, he held roles at RBS including IFA, technical area director and RBS and NatWest regional quality and development manager.
Iotec
Marketing Platform Iotec has appointed Paul Wright as chief executive officer. Replacing Tom Bowman, who stepped down from the company earlier in the year, Paul joins Iotec following his tenure as the director of iAd, Apple’s mobile advertising platform across Europe, the Middle East, India, Africa and the Asia-Pacific. As part of his role at Apple, Paul led the international (outside of the Americas) iAd teams driving advertising revenues across the mobile app ecosystem and developing creative solutions for a wide range of clients and agencies.Paul has nearly 30 years of experience in the media and advertising industry and is an experienced digital leader who has kept pace with all key developments in the digital marketplace since the late 1990s.
Silicon Valley Bank
Silicon Valley Bank’s UK Branch has appointed Sonya Iovieno as head of its accelerator and growth division. Sonya joins from Lloyds Bank, where she was responsible for new business origination with mid-market companies. She brings 20 years of corporate and commercial banking experience. At Silicon Valley Bank, Sonya will be focused on high growth venture capital backed businesses that have typically raised Series A financing.
