City Hall gives go-ahead for more housing
LONDON Mayor Boris Johnson will give three more areas in the capital special status as Housing Zones today.
The announcement marks the latest development in City Hall’s efforts to expand London’s housing supply, which the mayor said will increase the number of affordable homes in the capital by 50,000.
Neighbourhoods in Brent, Westminster and Sutton now have the status, which City Hall said will together create 6,600 new homes and more than 13,000 construction jobs.
Housing Zones receive funding from the mayor of London, as well as assistance from City Hall when it comes to fast-tracking approvals for development projects. Johnson announced the first nine housing zones in February, and six more in the spring.
Today’s announcement brings the total number of planned housing zones to 18, with two more expected to be identified later this year.
