The cheek of it: Liberal Democrat blogger Stephen Tall makes good on naked Whitehall fun run promise
Let's face it, the Liberal Democrats aren’t exactly famous for keeping their word. The party lost favour with voters shortly after the 2010 election when Nick Clegg failed to use his coalition powers to stop the Conservatives lifting the cap on tuition fees to £9,000 per year.
But things may be looking up for the unlucky boys and girls in yellow, as Lib Dem blogger Stephen Tall is promising to uphold a wager made in 2013 on the BBC's Daily Politics where he said he would run naked down Whitehall if the party were reduced to just 24 MPs in the 2015 general election.
“Technically, that didn’t happen. We did far, far worse,” Tall wrote on his newly created JustGiving page. The political thinker has decided to use the opportunity to raise money for Medecins Sans Frontieres.
“A pledge is a pledge, as Lib Dems know only too well.”
But, of course, it wouldn’t be a political wager without some amount of backtracking – Tall will not actually be starkers. He has only agreed to be “substantially naked”, but we shouldn’t expect a Full Monty. Perhaps that’s for the best.
