Capital One Cup: Jol not fearing for Fulham job despite cup exit
LEICESTER CITY 4 v FULHAM 3
UNDER-FIRE Fulham manager Martin Jol believes his job is not at any immediate risk, despite suffering a fourth round Capital One Cup exit to Championship high-flyers Leicester last night.
The Cottagers looked to have forced extra time after fighting back from 3-1 down to level with three minutes to go, but winger Lloyd Dyer scored a dramatic winner on 89 minutes.
Fulham are just two points clear of the Premier League relegation zone having won only twice since the opening day of the season.
They entertain champions Manchester United on Saturday before a trip to Liverpool the following weekend, but defiant Jol says he’s not feeling the pressure.
“I don’t feel pressure because we’re not bottom of the league, there are six or seven other managers in a worse position,” he said. “A few boys showed they could play and I thought the spirit during the game was good, but we gave cheap goals away.
“When we scored the third goal I thought to really go for it and score the winner but it wasn’t to be.
“We smelled blood and they scored the winner.”
Hugo Rodallega gave the visitors the lead on 18 minutes, but Leicester struck through Chris Wood and captain Wes Morgan shortly before half-time to move in front.
Defender Ignasi Miquel, on loan from Arsenal, scored his first goal for the Foxes to extend their advantage on 53 minutes.
But Rodallega immediately pulled a goal back for Fulham, before Giorgos Karagounis fired in a free-kick from the edge of the box to equalise.
However, Leicester sealed their progress when Dyer slid in to convert David Nugent’s cross.
