Cameron tells public to back British troops
THE public needs to support British troops “more loudly and more proudly”, the Prime Minister has said ahead of next week’s Armed Forces Day.
David Cameron said his recent trip to Afghanistan had reminded him of the sacrifices made by the military.
He said he hoped to see “an explosion of red, white and blue” when the country celebrates the armed forces next Saturday.
Writing in the Daily Telegraph, the Prime Minister warned the inquiry into Bloody Sunday was in danger of trashing “the reputation of our armed forces and the pride they inspire”.
He added: “Over the past few years there’s been an increasing appreciation of what our Armed Forces do. But still I believe we should do more.”
He said that society – not just government – needed to show stronger backing for the troops considering the risks they take for the country.
