Cameron outlines national interest case in Syria intervention
Speaking to MPs in the House of Commons today, prime minister David Cameron said that intervention in Syria could help facilitate a long-term political solution in the country and a more stable Middle East.
Asked what the national interest would be for an intervention, Cameron said that, as long as Syrian president Bashar al-Assad is able to get away with using chemical weapons, he would feel little if any pressure to come to the political table.
He added that MI5 had told him a legal, proportionate and focused response would not increase terrorism risks or create incentives for radicalisation at home.
