Bundestag ready to vote on Friday over new rescue plan
GERMANY’S parliament will hold a vote on Friday morning to decide whether or not to agree to Greece’s request for an extension of funding from its fellow Eurozone states.
Other states may also allow MPs to vote on the issue. Yet while scepticism towards Greece’s plans remains strong in countries such as Finland and Slovakia – as well as Germany – the plans are hoped to pass, as long as they are supported by national governments and international institutions such as the EU, European Central Bank and International Monetary Fund.
Meanwhile, Germany’s statistics office indicated yesterday that the Eurozone’s largest economy grew by 0.7 per cent in the final three months of the year.
Economic expansion is allowing the country’s government to get its budget back in the black, with separate figures reporting an €18bn (£13.2bn) surplus for 2014. Some euro area politicians want Germany to spend more to bolster demand.
