Bruce eyes up loan bid for frustrated keeper Hart
SUNDERLAND are leading the race to sign goalkeeper Joe Hart on loan from Manchester City.
Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is on the lookout for a temporary replacement for the injured Craig Gordon and has confirmed he has made an approach for the highly-rated England keeper.
“We’ve asked the question of City and we now just have to wait and see what they say,” said Bruce. “But the timetable is not up to us on when we get an answer, it’s up to them.
“With these new 25-man squad rules, clubs don’t have to name their confirmed squads until the end of August, so if they wanted to, City could delay any decisions on their squad until then.”
Hart, who kept 12 clean sheets in 41 appearances during an impressive loan spell at Birmingham City last season, opened the door for another temporary move away from Eastlands after emphasising his desire for first team football.
“All I want is to play in the Man City first team – but if I wasn’t I’d have to reconsider,” said Hart earlier this week.
“Shay [Given] has recovered from his shoulder injury and we are both fit and raring to go and we both want that place.”
He added: “[Sitting on the bench] doesn’t interest me. All I want to do is play in the first team.”
