Bring it on, roars McIlroy
WORLD No1 Rory McIlroy says he’s happy to be a marked man at Gleneagles this week.
USA captain Tom Watson believes winning early points from Europe’s talisman could be key to his own team’s bid to win a Ryder Cup on British soil for the first time since 1993 at The Belfry.
Watson said: “When you beat the stud on the other side it gives a boost to your team.”
But McIlroy, who won two of his four career Majors at the Open and US PGA Championships this year, insists he will embrace having a bullseye on his back.
The 25-year-old said: “Any time the opposition talks about you that’s a huge compliment.
“I don’t mind that at all. They can come at me. It gives me a little bit of a boost to try and go out there and play well.”
The Ryder Cup gets underway with the fourballs competition on Friday.
