Boris joins the City protest over proposed non-EU migrant cap
MAYOR of London Boris Johnson has written to home secretary Theresa May to express his concern over the economic impact of the forthcoming Tory cap on migrant workers from outside the EU.
Johnson told the BBC’s Andrew Marr show that it was “reasonable to try and get a grip” on immigration.
But he added that the problem with the cap was that companies, particularly accountancy firms, banks and law firms, would have extreme difficulty bringing in staff needed “to keep London’s economy going”.
The government has already faced a backlash from corporates over the prohibition of intra-company staff moving into and out of the UK, often on a temporary basis, which they argue would damage their ability to be flexible.
