Boris calls for strike law
MAYOR Boris Johnson has insisted a change in the law is needed to stop industrial action grinding London’s transport network to a halt.
His call comes despite criticism from ministers over his handling of unions planning to hold a run of Tube strikes from next week.
Senior cabinet ministers told him to engage with the RMT Union.
But Johnson hit back, calling on the government to enforce a minimum participation on strike ballots of 50 per cent.
Just 29 per cent of RMT Union drivers voted for the latest wave of strikes.
A spokesperson for the mayor said: “The mayor has always been willing to engage with any union interested in making the most of the record investment being made in the capital’s transport system. Unfortunately the RMT leadership has near constantly threatened the capital with strike action since his election.”
