Barratt Developments snaps up Dixons boss
Barratt Developments has announced the appointment of Dixons chairman John Allan, as a non executive director and chairman designate.
Allan will join Barratt's board on 1 August, and will succeed Bob Lawson who has been chairman since 1 July 2008 following the company's AGM on 12 November.
Commenting on the appointment, Bob Lawson, chairman, said:
We are delighted that John will be joining the Barratt Board and succeeding me as Chairman. In November, I will have served on the Board for more than six years and seen the business recover strongly after the financial markets crisis by focusing on increasing profitability, reducing debt and increasing land investment.
I am very pleased to be handing over to someone of John’s standing and experience; I am certain that he will make a major contribution to Barratt's future.
Before taking the reigns at Dixons, Allan was chief executive of Exel for 11 years, becoming the company's chief financial officer after its acquisition by Deutsche Post.
Commenting on his appointment, Allan said:
I am delighted to be joining the Board of the country's leading housebuilder. The company's recent performance has been very strong and I look forward to leading the Board and supporting the management team in developing the company's strategy and performance still further.
