Barcelona presidemt Qatar
A candidate for the presidency of FC Barcelona has insisted he would end the club's relationship with Qatar if he was voted into power.
The elections have been called a year early by current incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu in order to try and deal with the "negative" tension surrounding the club.
Press rumours have suggested that star player Lionel Messi has fallen out with head coach Luis Enrique, while the club has been involved in a number of controversies including a 12-month transfer ban due to irregularities in their signing of youth players.
Benedito told Goal.com:
The Qatar contract is a very harmful one for Barca. It's not an interesting contract financially but, more importantly than that, in terms of image, values and feeling, for what Barca represents, I believe the club should stay well away from the Qatar regime.
My commitment is to break, or at least not renew, the relations with Qatar.
