Banksy takes Dismaland to Calais: Timber from exhibition will be used to build refugee shelters
Street artist Bansky is taking his "bemusement park" installation to Calais after the attraction closes in Weston Super Mare tonight.
The timber used to build the exhibition in the seaside town will be sent to the refugee camps in Calais, where it will be used to build shelters for those who have fled to Europe.
"Coming soon… Dismaland Calais," the Dismaland website said today. "All the timber and fixtures from Dismaland are being sent to the ‘jungle’ refugee camp near Calais to build shelters. No online tickets will be available."
More than 150,000 people visited the park at the disused Tropicana lido on the Weston seafront over the last five weeks. Somerset businesses estimate that it added as much as £20m to the seaside town's local economy.
