Balfour Beatty wins £73m coastal defence contracts
Balfour Beatty has today announced it has been awarded two coastal defence contracts worth £73m. (Release)
The contracts, which are for Blackpool and Wyre Council, will see the infrastructure company replace over 2.9km of the original 1930s seawalls, as part of the promenade renewal and beach management projects, the Anchorsholme and Rossall schemes.
The projects will protect over 12,000 properties from coastal flooding and are funded in the main by the Environment Agency.
Andrew McNaughton, chief executive officer, said that the firm was delighted to be continuing its 13-year relationship with the councils.
Work on both contracts will commence ths winter, with Anchorsholme being completed in the summer of 2015 and Rossall two years later.
