BA and Unite in new talks
BRITISH Airways will hold talks with union leaders representing cabin crew this week, in a bid to avoid potentially crippling industrial action.
Unite is already balloting its members for a second strike after a planned 12-day action over the Christmas period was ruled illegal by a High Court judge.
Discussions will revolve around planned changes to working practices brought in during November, which have seen cabin crew numbers slimmed down.
Derek Simpson and Tony Woodley, joint general secretaries of Unite, said: “We will be approaching [these] talks in a constructive spirit, seeking to find a settlement that meets the real concerns of BA’s… cabin crew, while keeping the airline flying.”
BA said it welcomed the new round of talks, which will be hosted by the trade union body TUC.
