Azam fails in appeal against 12-week ban
GLOUCESTER hooker Olivier Azam was last night ordered to serve his full 12-week ban for kicking England captain Steve Borthwick in the eye.
The Frenchman appealed the original punishment for an offence that left the Saracens skipper fearing for his sight and severely swollen.
A panel agreed with Azam that the offence merited a less stringent sentence and also took off time for his guilty plea. But they added time back on for his previous convictions, taking it back up to 12 weeks.
Borthwick is set to return from his three-week lay-off in tomorrow’s Amlin Challenge Cup fixture against Toulon.
