Aussies ponder changes ahead of second Test
AUSTRALIA head coach Darren Lehmann has implied that changes will be made to the side which were ruthless annihilated by England in the first Investec Ashes Test.
The tourists were heavily tipped to retain the Ashes urn which they won so mercilessly Down Under 18 months ago but a 169-run defeat at Cardiff on Saturday left Australia trailing 1-0 in the series. All-rounder Shane Watson appears most at risk, having been dismissed lbw twice – the 14th time in 35 Ashes innings – and failed to take a wicket. Fellow all-rounder Mitchell Marsh hit centuries in both of Australia’s warm-up games.
“You don’t want to be getting out lbw all the time. Shane would be disappointed, so are we,” said Lehmann. “We’ll certainly look at the wicket and work out the best XI to win in those conditions and if it means making changes, we’ll make changes.”
