Ashcroft hits out over Dave bio
Billionaire Tory peer Lord Ashcroft is refusing to toe the party line in the run-up to the General Election in May, publicly teasing David Cameron over a biography he is writing on the PM. Due to be released in the autumn, the new bio, called Call me Dave, has sparked controversy in cabinet quarters. The book, which sets an alternative to classical historian Anthony Seldon’s own Cameron biography, follows the PM through the awkward Adrian Mole wilder years from babyhood to Eton.
“Cameron is suspicious. It is no secret that he dislikes the prospect of what he dismissively labels ‘the Ashcroft book’,” Ashcroft wrote on a Conservative blog yesterday. Where Seldon has exclusive access to the PM, his family and friends, Ashcroft bemoaned that the “Prime Minister has shut the doors to us.” Meanwhile Seldon yesterday replied saying he was sure Ashcroft’s book would be “excellent” and he is “greatly looking forward to reading it.”
