Asda cuts unleaded petrol and diesel prices as chief Andy Clarke calls on George Osborne to freeze fuel duty in Autumn Statement
Asda boss Andy Clarke has called on George Osborne to freeze fuel duty in his upcoming Autumn Statement, as the supermarket made further cuts to the cost of fuel at its pumps.
“There are undoubtedly green shoots at a macroeconomic level and our customers are cautiously optimistic which is why they continue to save, particularly at this time of year.
"With this in mind, we urge the chancellor to continue with a freeze on fuel duty in the Autumn Statement to avoid putting more pressure on family budgets," said Clarke.

The chancellor has frozen fuel duty in successive Budgets since March 2011, however the Treasury's share of income from fuel receipts has now fallen to its lowest in 15 years.
Asda said it is cutting prices of unleaded by up to two pence per litre and one pence on diesel from today, with prices capped at 103.7 pence per litre for unleaded and 106.7 pence per litre for diesel nationally.
