Ascot racers go up for auction
MORE than 50 champion thoroughbreds, including Majestic Queen, with five wins, Master Apprentice, who won two and placed twice, and Smoking Sun, are about to go under the hammer at Kensington Palace on Monday.
Thoroughbred auction house Goffs holds the second of a lavish annual event to allow wealthy punters buy a horse, some already scheduled to run at Royal Ascot next Tuesday.
Goffs is expecting around 1,000 well-heeled equestrian-lovers to get the bidding off to a brisk canter and with only 23 actually on the racecard, the bidding could break a gallop.
One prize-winner last year went for £1.3m. With the average auction price between £100,000 and £150,000, Goffs could clinch as much as £9m deals in one night.
