■ It’s barely 24 hours since BBC Newsnight presenter Jeremy Paxman shocked middle Britain with his Twitter-trending facial hair, but bookies are already taking bets on how long the interviewer’s designer stubble will last. Ladbrokes is offering 4/5 odds-on that Paxman’s beard sees out the week – while punters who think he’ll go for a goatee are being offered 20-1. The bookmaker is even considering paying out on co-presenter Emily Maitlis jumping on the bandwagon and sporting facial hair this week at odds of 10/1 – with both real and “fake hair” clinching the bet.

■ Yesterday we showed you where London’s most expensive houses and flats were sold in the second three months of the year, with the wealthy boroughs of Kensington & Chelsea and the City of Westminster unsurprisingly coming out on top. And now we know what’s parked in front of the multi-million mansions. According to car data crunched by insurers Aviva, Chelsea residents have the highest proportion of Porsches (1.31 per cent), Mercedes (7.41 per cent), BMWs (6.88 per cent) and Audis (5.89 per cent) across the 10 regions of the UK it surveyed, with the four luxury marques accounting for more than double the total amount of Fords in the area. The borough also boasts the highest proportion of what Aviva tactfully calls “large family cars” – presumably what locals affectionately dub Chelsea tractors.
