The Westminster road block ahead of today’s Queen's speech didn’t stop the crowds from attending the Taylor Wimpey Parliamentary Tug of War last night, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. City teams included Axa, Norton Rose, Jamieson Corporate Finance and AllianceBernstein with the latter taking on Norton Rose in the aptly named City Slickers match and winning…for the fourth year in a row. “We did zero training,” said AllianceBernstein’s MD Doug Stewart. “But we got a new tactic five minutes before the match.” First-timers Jamieson took a beating from Axa but founder Ian Jamieson didn't let it get him down – The Capitalist saw him dashing towards a glass of red before the dust had even settled.
LIB DEM leader Nick Clegg and his stablemate Vince Cable went for a leisurely pint in Piccadilly Circus yesterday causing a not so subtle media scrum outside the Queen’s Head pub. The meeting, their first official one since the “boot Clegg out” poll debacle, was clearly designed to show Cleggers wasn’t too bitter, over a pint of bitter (such symbolism). But it sparked off an interesting hashtag on Twitter as people tried to come up with Lib Dem pub names. Here’s a few of our favourites: The Slaughtered Lamb, The Slug and Limp Lettuce, The Europhilic Quangoist, The Constant Leaflets, The Battered Clegg, The Yellow Ferret, The Woolly Pack, and The Never Getting Back Inn. Ouch. Bet they needed another pint after that.
