Ameobi denies Sunderland as tempers flare
NEWCASTLE manager Alan Pardew blasted Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole after Shola Ameobi’s stoppage-time equaliser snatched the Magpies a 1-1 draw in a feisty Tyne-Wear derby.
Ameobi atoned for Demba Ba’s 83rd-minute penalty miss and cancelled out the first-half spot-kick scored by Nicklas Bendtner.
Sunderland saw Stephane Sessegnon sent off while Cattermole was shown a red card after the final whistle for verbally abusing referee Mike Dean. Pardew said: “Sunderland came here to upset us and Cattermole set the scene. It was ugly.”
